Alesund Mountains

Fifteen thousand years ago, during the last ice age, the Arctic ice covered all of Scandinavia, Denmark, and most of Britain and Ireland.  Although the ice sheets have now retreated into the far north, the mark they left behind on the landscape can still be seen in the dramatic and beautiful landscapes of Norway.  The mountains seen here surround the western Norwegian town of Alesund, one of the country’s most important fishing and oil ports.
